Key Findings:
  • As of 2010, the Turkish Statistical Institute put GDP at US$735.8bn and per capita GDP at US$10,079.
  • The domestic corporate income tax is levied at the basic rate of 20%.
  • According to UNCTAD’s World Investment Prospects Survey 2008-2010,Turkey is the 15th most attractive economy for Foreign Direct Investment (FDI).[1]
  • Turkey has been experiencing an increase in trade deficit since 2010, a decline in export competitiveness, and other issues such as inflation, causing foreign capital adjustments.
  • The number of visitors to domestic museums rose from 4,264,653 in 1980 to 25,107,203 in 2010.
  • Contemporary Istanbul 2011 attracted approximately 62,000 visitors with a total of 90 art galleries from 20 countries.
  • The Turkish art market has grown from $10.2 million in 2000 to $45.6 million in 2008.
  • From 2008 to 2011, international auction houses Sotheby’s and Christie’s realized a total of $12.53 million in Turkish modern and contemporary art sales.
